Abstract
The article focuses on the phenomena of «forcible modernization» and «dependent development». The paper considers the specific content and the systemic laws of this peculiar type of «catch-up modernization», analyzes modern scientific theories studying and systematizing this phenomenon (the concepts of F. Braudel, R.Wallerstein, Prebisch, F. Cardoso, E. Faletto, A. G. Frank). Some elements of «catch-up modernization» (the above-mentioned among them) are characteristic for the majority of «second echelon» societies in the world following the way of «secondary modernization» (including Russia), and the study of these socio-cultural patterns is, to a great extent, a matrix for understanding modern modernization processes as a whole.
