Abstract
Political manipulation techniques continue to evolve and their role have become more critical in the present-day Russian society. To strengthen the impact on the human consciousness and behaviour, political elites resort more often to modern symbolic communication technologies: advertising, public relations, propaganda through the mass media. Information-manipulating democracy is characterized by processes turning people into marionettes with pre-programmed desires, thoughts, values, responses in addition to forced exposure to information. This secret society governance is effective for the stable development of contemporary powers and political regimes in many countries.
