Abstract
The article uses the example of the Cinderella fairy tale to examine the problem of fairy tales’ death announced by some researchers. Recording and adaptation of the traditional fairy tale kill her original sense and misrepresent the image of the protagonist. Cinderella presents the paradigm of traditional feminine socialization. During the 1990s modern Cinderella romance novels and screen versions of the fairy tale show changes of the protagonist’s image, make Cinderella more active and independent. This tendency points out that the fairy tale expresses existing social problems; it changes and stays still alive.
