Abstract
The article deals with the issues of freedom of conscious and freedom of worship in the context of Soviet and Russian legislation, sociological surveys, judgments of Russian Orthodox Church in this regard. The author concludes that modern society needs the deeper understanding of freedom of conscious and any attempt to review defining principles of the Russian state as a secular one is unacceptable.
