Abstract
The article regards tourism as one of the city subcultures. The article markes the reasons for subcultures formating within the structure of urban culture, the main features of subcultures, such as the subject, activity, initiative center, values and norms of behavior, rituals, clothing and attributes. In accordance with these features the author explains her understanding of tourism as a subculture, considers prerequisites for the formation of the tourist subculture as a movement of «people with backpacks» in the 1960ies, the relationship between the concepts «tourist» and «Spa Visitor», focuses on the features of the tourist subculture in the Soviet society. The study traces the transformation of the tourist subculture and its elements, which marks differences between the modern and the Soviet understanding of the nature of tourism, it is concluded that modern tourism also has signs of subculture, but it does not fit the classical understanding, thus the author introduces the concept of «transsubkulture».
