Abstract
The article deals with I. Kant’s definitions of notions which are the most important for European culture. Knowing and believing proved to be assessment categories reflecting credibility of different judgments – theoretical and practical. Kant counters the doctrinal belief that claims the theoretical knowledge of its objects with the practical belief which, in turn, comprises pragmatic, moral and religious beliefs.
