Abstract
Gunas or «conditions», «qualities» are the key aspects of new Indian gurus’ theories. These modern Indian teachers of wisdom substantiate their philosophical and religious views, as a rule, on the basis of Neo-Vedanta. Shruthi («the revelation scriptures») and smtirhi («the sacred legends») are quoted by them regarding certain core issues. One of them is the doctrine of the three gunas or qualities which constitute material world’s character. Relying on understanding of ‘gunas’, traditional for Hinduism and Sankhya’s system, the new gurus interpret this idea in their own way.
