Abstract
The article examines the theoretical roots of the problems that arose in the construction of socialism in Russia and other countries in the 20th century. The author investigates the causes for the failure of attempts to modernize the socialist economy undertaken before the 1990s, as well as the complexities of the reforms of the 1990s. He proposes short- and long-term measures to modernize the economy of modern Russia. An attempt is made to justify the possibility of effective socialism.
