Special Drawing Rights: Current Status and the Prospects for Future Use

The article describes the place and role of special drawing rights in the modern global monetary system. Historically, having replaced gold with the special drawing rights, the International Monetary Fund planned that they will be actively used in the system of payments, but not artificially reflect a quota of participation of countries in the Fund. But the problems of currency systems at different stages of development resulted in the de facto impossibility for them to become true participant of the international settlements and loans system.
