Abstract
Long-term goals of sustainable development at the global and national levels receive normative consolidation both in program documents and in articles of the Constitution of the Russian Federation dedicated to human rights and freedoms. The paper examines how the implementation of internationally and constitutionally recognized values - human rights and freedoms are interconnected with protecting the environment from climate change caused by human activities and global processes. The author emphasizes that the specific role of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation in the field of protection of constitutional values in the context of sustainable development is due to the competence of the court - to find a balance of private and public interests when considering cases on the constitutionality of normative legal acts. An analysis of the legal positions of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation allows us to conclude that an integrated approach to the protection of such values as environmental safety, the health of citizens, human dignity, and nature conservation is necessary. The social rights of a citizen (that represent a private interest) must be effectively restored in cases of violation of environmental legislation, and the public authority has constitutional obligations to protect the environment (that represent a public interest).
