Abstract
The article examines the problem of combining and juxtaposing various stylistic layers (layers that have their own philosophical and cultural content) in European music of the XVII -1st half of the XVIII centuries (traditionally defined in musicology as the “Baroque era”). The author considers the connections of musical art with synchronous phenomena in other spheres of art. As a working term defining the epoch, the author proposes the concept of “Seichento”.
