Abstract
This article examines the problem of polystylistic character of Russian music in the historical period from the middle of the XVII century to the first third of the XIX century. The author considers this phenomenon in the context of the phenomenon of catching-up modernization and the accompanying catching-up type of culture. The latter is described typologically, as typical and immanent for the processes of catch-up modernization.
