Developing Keyboard Layout for a Laptop Computer as an Interdisciplinary Challenge: Initiating the Issue (the example of Octodon Project)

The paper outlines the key problem of today's mobile devices – the problem of text input – that poses obstacles to turning the mobile devices into the adequate workstation. The Russian innovative device to solve the problem is described – the Octodon keyboard invented by A. V. Lysenko. The author points out the troubles of the keyboard layout development in order to provide maximal typing speed and comfort, and offers solutions for the problem.
