Abstract
The article presents different approaches to the national idea development. There are system approach, ideological approach, sectoral approach, comparative approach, value approach, etc. among them. The national idea is considered in terms of nationalism and patriotism phenomena. The study analyzes the political and law heritage of I.A. Il’in, particularly, his contemplations of patriotism, spiritual self-determination, treasures of the nation, spiritual and national education. The author refers to the triads, known in the history of Russia, which expressed the national or religious ideas. Alongside with this overview, the article suggests some basic principles for developing the national idea (the formulas of new triads reflecting the democratic development priorities).
